Gardens and Fields
Fruits, vegetables and herbs are grown for our own use.
Strawberries abound in May: picked fresh for breakfast to enjoy as they are, or in strawberry crêpes, omelette soufflé aux fraises, or strawberry shortcake. Brambles - our are like a tart black raspberry - are sugared and baked in crumbles and pastries. Jumbo blackberries in July may be the first course at breakfast with a homemade herbal syrup, such as lemon verbena. Tomatoes are used for bruschetta cocktail hour fare and in quiche and omelets. Peaches and figs are served at breakfast. The peaches are the only plants that are treated against insects: we avoided that the first two years and have faced the necessity of making this exception. They're just too sweet, juicy and delicious to be sacrificed!
